Why Sunflowers Are More Than Just A Pretty Face

Brightening Your Life…. Captivating Your Soul

I love sunflowers!  There is something about them that just brightens a person’s day creating a feeling of happiness.

When I see them growing in my garden, I smile.  Sunflowers simply saturate the psyche with serenity.  (Say that five times fast! LOL!)

Sunflowers also provide butterflies and bees with pollen.  That’s important because beekeepers across the US lost 44 % of their honey bee colonies between Spring 2015 to Spring 2016.  What does this mean for us?  Without bees spreading pollen and seeds, many of our flowers, shrubs, trees and plants needed for food would perish which would affect all living creatures including humans.

Another reason for sunflowers?

Sunflowers have tasty little seeds that can be ate as you are pulling weeds or they can be a delicious addition to a salad!  (Those prone to diverticulosis….. eating these may not be acceptable to your diet!)

One of my favorite reasons for growing sunflowers is these little guys!

This bright creature known as a Yellow Finch or Gold Finch, loves sunflower seeds and are frequent visitors to my sunflowers.  I love watching them!  If they see me nearby they will sit on the electric wires and yell at me to MOVE ON!

No matter what, sunflowers are a beautiful sunny flower that brightens my day and just makes everything better!

How about you?  Do you love sunflowers?
