Writing Wednesday … Wrong Side Of The Tracks

Today I am going a different direction and sharing a song I recently wrote.

The Wrong Side Of The Tracks

(1)
I waited on your table
Just the other day
Your group, from the church downtown
A few of you did say.
The dirty laundry of a guilty soul
Was brought up ‘most right away
The gossip didn’t even take a pause
So that anyone could pray.

(2)
The object of the prattle
Was a lowly teenage mom
You heard she left her child alone
And went to her senior prom.
You judged the sins in her short life
You judged her every act
You judged her for eternity
When you didn’t know the facts

(chorus)
He ate with the sinners
He helped the blind to see
He touched the pariahs
Why wouldn’t He rescue me?
He cared for the lepers
Who fell between the cracks.
Why couldn’t He love a sinner
From the wrong side of the tracks?

(3)
Your conversation moved
To a man who smoked most of the day
He was dying from lung cancer
Which he deserved, I heard you say.
None of you seemed moved
To share the gospel with that soul.
You all looked down your noses
As you ate from pristine bowls.

(chorus)
He ate with the sinners
He helped the blind to see
He touched the pariahs
Why wouldn’t He rescue me?
He cared for the lepers
Who fell between the cracks.
Why couldn’t He love a sinner
From the wrong side of the tracks?

(4)
As your chatter moved on to others
A tear crept down my face
They couldn’t know I was the girl
Who they first spoke with such distaste
When I saw them skip a needed tip
To instead just leave a tract
I knew I couldn’t let them go
Before I reminded them this fact.

(chorus)
He ate with the sinners
He helped the blind to see
He touched the pariahs
Why wouldn’t He rescue me?
He cared for the lepers
Who fell between the cracks.
Why couldn’t He love a sinner
From the wrong side of the tracks?

(ending)
If He forgave the Samaritan
Of all her adulterous acts
He’ll surely grant grace to that girl
From The wrong side of the tracks.

  1. I really enjoyed reading these lyrics! The words are too often very true. Bravo! Keep up the great work! Ahmeli…that reading these lyrics will inspire someone to change this trait in his/her life.
